500-Million-Year-Old Fossil Found, Named After Johnny Depp

He's starred in countless films, was nominated for Oscars, and was named People's Sexiest Man Alive, but Johnny Depp received a truly unique honor when an extinct species was recently named after him.
Noted for its scissor-like claws, Kooteninchela deppi is a 506-million-year-old fossil that pays homage to the 49-year-old actor's character in "Edward Scissorhands."
Scientist David Legg explains, "When I first saw the pair of isolated claws in the fossil records of this species, I could not help but think of Edward Scissorhands."
On a more superficial note, he admits, "In truth, I am also a bit of a Depp fan, and so what better way to honor the man than to immortalize him as an ancient creature that once roamed the sea?"
