Paula Deen Admits to Using the N-Word
Getting herself into a bit of a pickle, Paula Deen admitted under oath that she had used the N-word before.
Being deposed for a discrimination lawsuit against her restaurant Uncle Bubba's Seafood and Oyster House, the butter-loving celebrity cook was peppered with difficult questions.
When asked if she had ever used the N-Word, the 66-year-old Southerner replied, "Yes, of course. It's been a very long time."
As an example, Paula spoke about being held at gunpoint by a robber when she worked as a bank teller in the '80s. She candidly admitted that she used it "probably in telling my husband."
Pressed if she'd used the word after that time, Ms. Deen replied, "I'm sure I have, but it's been a very long time."
Though not able to recall any more specific examples, the Food Network star continued, "I don't -- I don't know. But that's just not a word that we use as time has gone on. Things have changed since the '60s in the south. And my children and my brother object to that word being used in any cruel or mean behavior. As well as I do."
Reached for comment, her attorney William Franklin stated, "Ms. Deen does not condone or find the use of racial epithets acceptable. She is looking forward to her day in court.”
